Welcome students and parents/guardians to grade seven. I hope your summer was an enjoyable one. I am looking forward to an interesting and creative year in Language Arts. Please read over the outline.
Course Outline:
Evaluation:
Course work will be evaluated using a variety of methods including observation, peer evaluation, self-assessment, daily practice assignments, projects and conversations with students.
Class Expectations:
Students are expected to bring all necessary supplies and books to class each day. Students will be assigned a library period to exchange books to read in class.
Necessary supplies: Large three ringed binder, pens, pencils, dividers, loose leaf, dictionary, pencil crayons and markers, 2-3 duotangs, glue and scissors.

Course Outline:
- Novels: we will read two or three novels as a class that they will respond to throughout the year.
- Reading: students will engage in independent reading activities and create reading responses bi-weekly to strengthen their reading comprehension skills.
- Writing: students will participate in daily writing activities. Through practice they will learn to organize and generate ideas, use mechanics of writing, add voice and sentence fluency to their pieces.
- Drama/Reader’s Theatre: the students will participate in some Reader’s Theatre throughout the year.
- Poetry: the students will analyze some of their favorite songs/poems and create their own.
- Vocabulary; students will enhance their vocabulary and spelling skills throughout the year by seeking out five new words to learn each week.
- Spelling and Grammar: reinforcement of basic skills: (grammar, spelling, editing, sentences and paragraph construction)
